Meet the minds behind Broomberg

Every day lives are getting busier in metro cities. People are too occupied to do many normal chores of life. Identifying this struggle, Samrat Goyal and Ishan Baisoya together in 2013 started Broomberg – the biggest cleaning company in Delhi NCR.

We had a small chat with Samrat and his team to know the brand well, the details of which are penned below.

1.Tell us about the journey of your brand.
Broomberg is the biggest cleaning company in Delhi NCR. Founded in October 2013 by 2 childhood friends, Broomberg is the pioneer of Professional home deep cleaning in India.
Our CEO, Samrat Goyal is a Delhi University graduate who did his masters at the London School of Economics and quit a lucrative consulting career at the Boston Consultancy Group to start this company with his childhood friend Ishan Baisoya.
Ishan was previously working with Investor’s Clinic, a real estate consultancy. His keen understanding of property and spaces has helped Broomberg devise astute cleaning modules and helped chart its operations and sales strategy.
It all began with smoke (a lot of it)! A fire broke at Samrat’s brother’s home and wrecked the place in August 2013. There was no professional help to clean up such a mess. Then and there, this idea was born. After discovering a business opportunity, Childhood friends Samrat and Ishan came together to start a Professional Cleaning Company in Delhi-NCR when the market for deep cleaning services practically did not exist.

2.What were the challenges that you faced?
The first challenge was to articulate the consumer problem I wanted to solve.
The second challenge was finding a good working place. We zeroed in on a park facing basement in Malviya Nagar. There only we figured out cleaning by DIY learning. Next challenge was finding people to train – we used to stand at the Labor Chowk whole day and ask random people to help us out.
Another challenge was Sales – we tried Flyers, Cold calling, personally talking to people! This worked to some extent but not really. Most of the times, we were disheartened. We thought Post Party Cleaning would be amazing – we put up flyers at party items shops,  no one gave a f*ck!
Then we finally hired somebody in marketing and started online advertising which really helped in getting us leads.

3.What has been the turning point of your business?
It is very difficult to pinpoint a single turning point, every day comes with new challenges and learning which contribute to our growth. 2015 was our year of inflexion for sure!

4.What are your thoughts on the current Indian market scene?
There is a ₹5000 CR market for cleaning services in our country. Broomberg has acquired 10000+ customers in just 2+ years of Full-Time Operations in the capital city.

5.How do you cope with work stress and pressure?
I work 24*7 in my head. To put my mind off stress, I just chill with close friends and family.

6.What do you think are the advantages and disadvantages of being an entrepreneur? Advantages – To see yourself building things – every day is a new challenge.
Disadvantages – No salary for the past 3 years.(Just kidding!). A con would be uncertainty – lots of it. One can properly plan their career or a job but not a business.

7. Any advice/suggestion for budding entrepreneurs.
Top three things needed to be a successful entrepreneur according to me
-perseverance
-support from ecosystem – family & friends
-finding a trustworthy partner/founder
