Xiaomi issues warning against fake firm representatives providing franchisee opportunities

Chinese tech major Xiaomi, one of the leading tech giants in the country, recently warned against fraudulent individuals and agencies who are approaching people and duping them for a large sum of money because of falsified claims that they are authorised company representatives and soliciting them to set up retail stores.

Xiaomi officials released a statement that it does not contact anyone through calls, e-mails or social media for franchise opportunities, and only accepts applications for potential franchise partners for Mi Stores through its store’s official website.

Xiaomi stated, “These individuals/ agencies become untraceable and vanish after collecting the application and processing fee. Some professional con men collect the payment of stamp duty and then send a counterfeit stamped agreement in the name of Xiaomi Technology India with the forged signature and stamp of our managing director,” it added.

It added that the company does not require any processing fee for the franchise opportunity. “People are advised to treat any such means of communication with caution if they are contacted through emails, messages or calls.” Xiaomi added. It said people should reach out to the company directly or report the matter to the police if any such transactions are in process.
