Dont just Teach, make a Difference: Nishant Niramohi

Education is the process of facilitating learning ,acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits.Education in today’s world is perhaps the single most important means for individuals to improve personalities, overcome constraints and enlarge the available set of opportunities. The process of education impacts on all aspects of life, hence its very important. Nishant  Niramohi the Director of Pioneer School explains the urgent need of education for this country to flourish.

Tell us about the journey of your business? What were the challenges that you faced?
Eight years back when I started my business, I experienced a few problems. The first challenge was the educational backwardness of the area. So, I kept convincing people to send their children to school.Another issue was to educate students about the value of punctuality and regularity. Next problem was the non-participation of students in other co-curricular activities. And the biggest challenge was non-supportive and ignorant behavior of parents in terms of progress of their children and many other challenges. But I felt if we get afraid of challenges we can never grow in life. So, with this positive attitude and my parents’ and grandparents’ guidance, Principal’s innovative ideas, Vice Principal’s hardwork and support of school staff, I kept going forward. And after the bitter period of struggles, I tasted the sweetness of success. And today we are the best and still booming.

Tell us about an accomplishment you are most proud of?
See, I am not the one who believes in stagnancy or stagnates after one or two accomplishments or achievements. My first and prime motto is to make people aware of the fact that education is not only getting a degree but also making a child an all-rounder. To make a child learn how to develop himself or herself along with the development of the society. And today this feeling makes me feel proud that even rural children from my school could develop them. They became the national champions and state champions in different sports. Even in academics our students proved them the best. Many of them are enrolled in one of the top universities of nation. Few of them are settled in govt. sector holding good positions as P.O.s or C.A.s etc. Many of students from our school are running their business successfully. So, it really gives a good feeling that they got a platform to prove themselves where I am a leader.

What is unique about your business and where do you see yourself in next 5 years?
We are unique because we are what we are. We are transparent. We don’t attract people by fake charms. And we are showing continuous improvement and progress. In next 5 years, I am sure that I’ll be able to connect more people with education. And my object is to bring unfathomable development among children by identifying their abilities.

What do you look for in an employee and what are your responsibilities as a business owner?
I like people who are active, who take responsibility and who accept feedback. See, everyone makes mistakes and most of them do wonders in life. That’s not a big deal. But very few take responsibility for their mistakes as well as wonders, because it increases workload and duties. So, I don’t want sleeping souls with me. And as far as my responsibilities are concerned, as a business owner I believe in creating a safe environment at work place. I want to make my employees feel secure. I know, I am liable to create a transparent and smooth work culture. And I am responsible to make them feel like coming at work happily. And the most important, I like recognizing an employee for thinking out of box.

In past few months, what is the smallest change you’ve made that has had the biggest positive results?
I must accept that change is the rule of life. And I don’t want to restrict myself with one or two changes. But as you asked, I’ll tell you that a small initiative of making students responsible resulted into a campaign. They started acting as responsible students as well as responsible citizens. They started knowing the importance of being responsible. They started saving electricity, they stopped wasting water and food, they learned how to manage their time and moreover, they got to know the importance of cleanliness. They became a part of ‘Clean-India Campaign’. So, I consider it a tremendous result.

How much do you think that social media helps you to work more effectively?
I think social media plays a vital role for showing the existence of a business. That’s what it did for my business also. Rather, at present also it does the same for me. I am thankful to media that in the early years of setting up my business, it helped me a lot. I used to write articles for making people aware about the importance of education. I advertised my students achievements through internet. I connected with parents to involve them in their children’s  curricular activities. So, I consider media is one of my best supporters.

What are your general thoughts on education sector how can it be improved?
Actually, as everyone knows that education means ‘change in behaviour’ same ways I believe in all-round development of students like physical development, mental development, social, emotional, spiritual, moral development etc. But that is not being done. Each one of us must understand that education is not only reading, writing, listening or speaking but it actually means ‘studying’. And I want to accentuate it to all the educationists that they must teach their students the difference. And as you are talking about improvements in education, I think the first and foremost task is to inculcate values in students. And it’s a collective effort by parents, school and society.Second thing which makes me worried is the over-protection of children by their parents. You know the over-protection makes them dependent and weak, nothing else.Third improvement can be made by giving exposures to students. Educational institutes are bound to syllabus only. They are unable to identify the innate qualities of students. And I think it’s a failure.

What would be your suggestion to the budding entrepreneurs?
I have firm belief in positivity. Because one’s positive attitude keeps him/her going with great enthusiasm and converts impossibilities to possibilities. So, my suggestion to the budding entrepreneurs is to stay positive. See, profit and loss are two side of a coin. But once a business is started one must not look back. Try finding the best ways to make the things happen. Try finding the problem areas and work upon them.I think, if we expect a change in others we need to present ourselves as an example first. It may take time but patience is mandatory because it brings the change. And always remember that patience is bitter but its fruit is sweet.
